This embroidery piece is inspired by the rest and reclamation of living things once they have passed on. The process of this project was a meditative one. Over the summer, I would work my job as a caricature artist, and then come home to work on this piece as a way to relax. The stitches are primarily french knots and simple back and satin stitches. The title was inspired by the song “There Beneath” by The Oh Hellos, which has a line that says “There is beauty in the way of things”, which I felt spoke to the inevitable nature of death that all living creatures must face. The song is gentile and comforting despite the subject matter, just as I wanted this sweatshirt to be.
